If you’re reading this, you’re probably in pain.
Maybe your knee has been hurting for months. Maybe your hip keeps you awake at night. Maybe you’ve just been told you need surgery — and then heard the devastating news: “The waiting time is 6 to 18 months.”
You are not alone.
According to the latest data released by the UK Parliament in October 2025, there are still 860,865 patients on the NHS Trauma & Orthopaedics waiting list (September 2025 data). Among them, over 41% have been waiting more than 18 weeks — with the average waiting time reaching 42.4 weeks (approximately 10.5 months).

In Scotland, the situation is even more severe. According to the Daily Record, one patient in Tayside waited 2,049 days — over 5.6 years — for a hip replacement. This is not an isolated case: in 5 out of 14 Scottish health boards, the median wait for hip/knee replacement exceeded one year during 2024/25.

Canada: Equally Long Waits
If you’re in Canada, the situation is no better. The Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI) 2025 report reveals:
Hip replacement: only 68% of patients receive surgery within the 6-month (182-day) benchmarkKnee replacement: only 61% meet this targetIn Newfoundland and Labrador’s Eastern Zone, the median wait for knee replacement reached 476 days, with the 90th percentile waiting 914 days (~2.5 years)Nationally, orthopedic surgery has the longest wait time of any specialty — approximately 57.5 weeks (>13 months) from referral to treatment.

While You Wait, Your Body Deteriorates
This is not a simple matter of “being patient.” During the 6 to 18 months you wait for joint replacement surgery:
Pain intensifies, requiring increasing doses of painkillersJoint function degrades, mobility continues to declineMuscles atrophy, making post-surgical rehabilitation more difficultQuality of life plummets — you may be unable to work, sleep, or live normally with your familySurgical outcomes worsen — research shows that longer waiting times correlate with poorer post-operative resultsAs Arthritis UK warns: “Thousands of arthritis patients are waiting in pain.”
The China Solution: Faster, More Affordable, Same Quality
This is why mymedvia exists.

Why China?
1. World-Class Orthopedic Care
China’s orthopedic capabilities have reached world-class standards. Beijing Jishuitan Hospital is China’s #1 orthopedic hospital and, since 2008, has been jointly accredited by the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and the Hong Kong College of Orthopaedic Surgeons as an orthopedic specialist training center. It performs over 40,000 orthopedic surgeries annually, and its spine surgery, joint reconstruction, and trauma orthopedics departments are internationally renowned.
Peking Union Medical College Hospital (PUMCH), ranked #1 overall in China for 14 consecutive years, has operated its International Medical Services (IMS) department since 1951, offering care in English, Japanese, French, and other languages.

A Real Case
In September 2024, an American patient (actor Da Yang) underwent hip surgery at Huashan Hospital in Shanghai. His cost in China was approximately ¥30,000 RMB (~$4,300 USD). The same procedure in the United States would have cost approximately $30,000 — a saving of ~86%. He stayed in the hospital for 6 days and recovered well, able to walk normally after surgery.
